Yes. The Examination is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit newsroom, so eligible donations are tax deductible. U.S.-based donors receive a tax receipt for their records. Tax treatment may vary depending on the structure of your gift and your local laws. For international donors, The Examination can coordinate with donors or their advisors as needed.

Your donation directly supports investigative journalism dedicated to protecting public health. Contributions help fund in-depth reporting on industries and practices that harm communities—including tobacco and food companies, as well as environmental polluters. Donations support essential activities such as reporting expenses, editorial review, and broad distribution, ensuring our work reaches the people who need it most.

Recurring monthly donations provide stable, predictable funding that empowers our newsroom to plan ambitious investigations and respond quickly to emerging health threats. This sustained support also enables us to hold powerful actors accountable year-round. Even modest recurring gifts, when pooled together, create a lasting and significant impact.

We accept donations via credit card, PayPal, Venmo, Google Pay, Apple Pay, and checking accounts. We also welcome gifts of stock, checks, ACH transfers, and Donor‑Advised Funds (DAFs). For large or complex gifts, our team can provide wire transfer details and coordinate directly with donors. Giving by wire transfer or ACH avoids credit card processing fees, meaning more of your gift goes directly to our journalism. This is a great option for gifts from donor-advised funds, foundations, or larger one-time contributions.

To receive our bank routing and account information, please email sarah@theexamination.org. We'll send you the details right away, along with anything your bank needs to complete the transfer.

Please let us know once your transfer is sent — including the donor name and amount — so we can properly acknowledge your gift and provide a tax receipt.

• Editorial decisions remain solely with our newsroom.

• We may consider restricted funding for broader topics, but only with full editorial control.
