About The Examination
The Examination is an award-winning independent nonprofit newsroom that investigates urgent public health threats driven by commercial activity. We report on preventable health crises that sicken and kill tens of millions of people each year, and health inequities that leave marginalized communities the most vulnerable.
In less than a year of publishing, we have teamed up with major news outlets, including The New York Times, Washington Post, Guardian and Der Spiegel, Chinese-language news outlet The Initium, Salud con Lupa, Africa Uncovered (Kenya), Ghana Business News and more.
Our ranks include Pulitzer Prize winners and other decorated journalists with deep experience holding industry to account and strategically ensuring our journalism sparks real-world change. Our work is already making a difference. It prompted the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to enforce stricter standards for how companies and social media creators disclose paid advertising, played a role in the shuttering of a lead battery recycling facility in Cameroon, and preceded the proposal of new graphic health warnings on nicotine pouches in Kenya.
